Quick! Hand me that rubber stamp! The one with the four magic letters: V-E-T-O
The Story Behind the Satire:
It may sound like dark humor, but the reality is even darker. Governor Hochul just vetoed the GFA for the third time. Her reason? A report from a consulting firm called Milliman claims insurance costs would rise by 40%.
The GFA was written to update a 175-year-old law that values most lives at zero, save only wage earners. It had bipartisan support and would have given grieving families the right to seek justice for the emotional devastation caused by preventable deaths.
Instead, Hochul sided with Milliman's predictions. But here's the catch: Milliman has made similar predictions before, and they were wrong.
According to multiple reports: Milliman opposed a prior bill predicting skyrocketing costs. Those increases never materialized. Again, his latest is a claim that GFA would cause a 40% increase in medical liability premiums.
Meanwhile, every 35 minutes, another New Yorker dies from a preventable medical error.
